BREAKING: NCDC IDENTIFIES ABUJA EBOLA PATIENT AS NIGERIAN DIPLOMAT

.…condition reportedly deteriorates into multi-organ failure

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified the Ebola patient in Abuja as a Nigerian diplomat, disclosing that her condition has deteriorated into multi-organ failure.

The NCDC made the disclosure on Wednesday during an emergency incident management meeting in Abuja, confirming that laboratory tests detected the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus.

Olajumoke Babatunde, Director of the NCDC’s Public Health Laboratory Service, said three levels of molecular testing were conducted to establish the strain.

“We did three levels of tests, but all were molecular. The strain was Bundibugyo,” she said.

The patient reportedly travelled to the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo for business and transited through Uganda before arriving in Nigeria, where she later developed symptoms.

Ugandan health authorities have clarified that the woman showed no symptoms while in the country, stressing that her transit through Uganda does not establish the source of infection.

The Federal Government had earlier confirmed the case on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, urging healthcare facilities nationwide to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected infections.

Investigations into the source of infection and possible contacts are ongoing.
