Ogun SSG, Talabi Marks Birthday with Humanitarian Gesture, Settles Medical Bills for Indigent Patients

ABEOKUTA – The Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, turned his 64th birthday into a day of compassion and relief for indigent patients at the Ogun State Hospital Management Board (General Hospital) Ijaye, Abeokuta, as he donated cash to offset their outstanding medical bills.

The annual charitable tradition, which has become a hallmark of the SSG’s birthday celebrations since the inception of the current administration, saw his team visit the hospital on June 16 to distribute financial assistance to patients who had been stranded due to their inability to pay for treatment.
Mr. Toyin Lapite, Director in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, who led the SSG’s delegation alongside other political office holders, conveyed Mr. Talabi’s warm wishes and assured the patients of the government’s continued commitment to their wellbeing.
Receiving the team, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Bunmi O. Osinaike, expressed profound gratitude to the SSG for his unwavering benevolence.
“We are deeply appreciative of this kind gesture from His Excellency’s appointee. This is not the first time Mr. Talabi is doing this, and it speaks volumes about his commitment to the welfare of the common man. The patients here are overwhelmed, and on behalf of the management and staff of this hospital, we pray that God continues to bless and preserve him for many more years of service to humanity,” Dr. Osinaike stated.
The gesture directly benefitted several patients who had been awaiting discharge but were hindered by unpaid medical expenses. The hospital’s Head of Administrative, Mr. Oluwole Lanre, alongside the Head of Nursing, Mrs. Taiwo Florence, and the Head of Surgical Operation, were on hand to receive the SSG’s team and ensure the smooth distribution of the cash donations.
One of the grateful beneficiaries, who spoke with our correspondent, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unexpected relief.
“We were in a very difficult situation; some of us had been here for days without knowing how to pay our bills. When we heard that the SSG was coming to help, we couldn’t believe it. This is a blessing from God. May the Lord continue to prosper him and grant him many more years. We will forever remember this kindness,” the patient said emotionally.
Another patient added, “This is a rare act of compassion. Many people celebrate birthdays with parties, but Mr. Talabi chose to put smiles on our faces. We are truly grateful and will pray for his continued success.”
The visit concluded with prayers offered by the patients and hospital staff for the SSG’s continued good health and greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
Mr. Talabi, who has consistently demonstrated a passion for healthcare and community welfare, continues to set a commendable example of public service and humanitarianism through his annual birthday outreach, further cementing his reputation as a leader who prioritizes the welfare of the less privileged in Ogun State.
