Ogun LG Appointees Commend Abiodun, Seek Welfare Package

ABEOKUTA – The Conference of Local Government Supervisors and Special Advisers in Ogun State has hailed Governor Dapo Abiodun for his “courage, charismatic leadership style, and consistency in the transformation” of the state. The commendation was part of a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The meeting, attended by members from all 20 local governments, focused on members’ welfare, local government autonomy, and the social and economic development of the state. The conference praised the governor for making Ogun a “reference point of good leadership quality” and for his “giant stride and magnanimity in taking development to the grassroots.”

The communique emphasised that the unprecedented infrastructural development at the local level has contributed immensely to the state’s economic growth. The group also commended the governor’s efforts in “restoring and ensuring the practice of a true local government autonomy,” noting that Ogun is one of the few states in the country to run local councils independently.

While acknowledging the governor’s “kind gesture” to local government vice chairmen, secretaries, and 236 councillors, the conference made a special appeal for a similar welfare package to be extended to its members. The group stated that they would be “happy and express their gratitude if such an unprecedented package is extended to the local government supervisors and special advisers are approved in no distant time.”

The conference pledged its “unwavering support” to the Abiodun administration and expressed optimism in his mantra, “Igbega Ipinle Ogun, Ajose Wa Ni” (Building Our Future Together). It also called on all stakeholders to work with the government to achieve its goals.

In a unanimous decision, the supervisors and special advisers passed a vote of confidence on Governor Abiodun for “transforming the local government administration into a lovely place to serve the grassroots.” The communiqué concluded with a call for the people of Remo Federal Constituency to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Elegbeji Adesola, in the upcoming by-election.
