Ipokia LG Chairman, Hon.Avoseh, Hosts NDLEA Commander, Strengthens Anti-Drug Advocacy Collaboration

Idiroko– The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, today received the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, Mr. Ekundayo Williams Omoniyi, in a courtesy visit at the Local Government Secretariat.

The visit, to foster stronger ties between the NDLEA and the local government, saw the newly transferred Special Area Commander familiarising himself with the council leadership while commending *Hon. Avoseh* for his active involvement in recent anti-drug advocacy efforts across the area.

During the meeting, Commander Omoniyi reflected on the recent sensitisation campaign against drug and substance abuse, which spanned multiple communities in Idiroko, including the border axis, Ojuroko, Baggage Road, Iyana Ago, and Garage. The initiative sought to educate residents on the dangers of drug misuse while highlighting the NDLEA’s rehabilitation services for individuals battling substance addiction.

The Commander emphasised the need for sustained collaboration between the NDLEA and Ipokia Local Government, stressing that collective action remains crucial in combating drug trafficking, abuse, and unauthorised possession.

In response, *Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh* expressed appreciation for the Commander’s visit and assured him of the council’s continued support for initiatives safeguarding public wellbeing. He noted that his participation in the NDLEA’s recent outreach had been formally recognised by relevant authorities.

The Chairman further stressed the importance of preventive measures, urging the extension of anti-drug education to secondary schools across the local government. He also proposed engaging Community Development Associations (CDAs) and their zonal coordinators to enhance grassroots advocacy and community sensitisation.

Commander Omoniyi conveyed greetings from the NDLEA’s Chief Executive and reiterated the agency’s commitment to its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, particularly at the grassroots level.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to collaborative efforts in curbing drug-related challenges and promoting a healthier society.
