How We Neutralized Bandits, Retrieved AK – 47 Rifles Inside Forest – Ogun Police

Two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun duel between members of a kidnap gang and men of Ogun State Police Command.

The kidnappers clashed with the policemen on Saturday on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Bere Forest, Onigaari village, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday.

He explained that the policemen received a tip off from members of the public that AK-47-bearing hoodlums numbering about six were sighted in the forest, lying in ambush.

He said, “Upon the information, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, quickly deployed the command’s tactical teams, coordinated by the DPO Owode Egba division, CSP Olusola Oniyiku, to the forest in search of the hoodlums.

“While the combing was going on, the hoodlums on sighting the policemen, opened fire on them and a gun battle ensued. At the end of the encounter, one of the bandits was shot dead on the spot, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injury.

“Searching the forest further, one of the bandits with bullet wound was arrested in the bush but gave up the ghost a few minutes after.”

He said two AK-47 rifles with breech numbers 1983NF1040 and 1987-3-CA-1212 as well as five rounds of ammunition were recovered from them.

“The latest rifle recovery makes four AK-47 rifles recovered by the command within the period of two weeks. Also recovered from them are sachets of tramadol and assorted charms,” Oyeyemi added.

He said the State Commissioner of police had directed that a manhunt should be launched for the remaining members of the gang.

He said Ajogun also appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, to inform the police if anyone with gunshot injuries was seen in their domains.
