APC Dismisses Ogun PDP’s Alleged Secret Meeting Claims Against Yayi

....Party describes allegations as baseless, urges opposition to focus on infrastructure and issue-based campaigning ahead of 2027

ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of a clandestine meeting between its governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and electoral officials, describing the claims as baseless and unfounded.

The APC, in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of its Campaign Council in Ogun State, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, accused the opposition party of resorting to unsubstantiated allegations out of fear of electoral defeat ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The ruling party maintained that Senator Adeola remained focused on his legislative responsibilities and consultations with stakeholders across Ogun State, insisting that there was no basis for the allegations of secret dealings with electoral officials.

According to the APC, the PDP’s claims, including allegations of exchanging bags and engaging in questionable activities, were attempts to discredit its candidate rather than present a credible campaign agenda to the electorate.

The party stated that Senator Adeola’s record of public service, legislative contributions and developmental projects across the state remained his strongest credentials ahead of the forthcoming election.

“We are not surprised by this latest hallucination from the PDP. It has become their standard operating procedure to cry wolf whenever they realise that the electorate has totally rejected them,” the statement said.

The APC further challenged the PDP to provide verifiable evidence to substantiate its allegations, insisting that its commitment to democratic principles, transparency and the rule of law remained unwavering.

The party also expressed confidence in the country’s electoral institutions and security agencies, stating that it welcomed any legitimate investigation into electoral misconduct, adding that its campaign would be driven by performance rather than inducements.

Reaffirming its commitment to free, fair and credible elections, the APC urged political parties to focus on issues that directly affect the lives of residents rather than engage in what it described as political blackmail and unsubstantiated accusations.

The party called on the Ogun electorate to disregard the allegations, describing them as an attempt to create unnecessary tension in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also advised the PDP to address its internal challenges and develop an issue-based campaign centred on governance, infrastructure, economic development and the welfare of residents.

The APC concluded by reiterating its confidence in Senator Adeola’s candidacy and assuring the people of Ogun State that the party was prepared to submit itself to the electorate’s verdict at the polls in 2027.
