The All Progressives Congress(APC) Stakeholders, Yobe State led by Hussain Muhammad has called on the State House of Assembly to impeach Mai Mala Buni if he fails to resign as Governor due to his unavailability in the state to discharge his constitutional duties as Governor of Yobe.
At a press conference on Sunday, 18 October, 2020, Muhammad declared that it has become very expedient to draw the attention of the public and especially the State House of Assembly to the aberration of having a Governor who is non-functional.
According to him, Buni was not elected as APC Chairman but Governor of the State and swore to obey the constitution.
He said it is the position of the stakeholders in the state that Buni has become a self-serving Governor who failed and betrayed his people when they needed him the most.
“Individually, and collectively, we have committed our lives to the service of our great State and Nation in different capacities in the past but we are concerned about the developments in the state under the current administration.
“Recall that Buni was earlier in the year inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the ruling party as Caretaker Chairman who was expected to settle the lingering crisis in the party, and as well conduct election for new party Executives for the smooth running of our great party APC”.
“To all party members, we all knew it would be an extra task for a sitting Governor whom much is also expected from in the governance of his State.
“As it was expected, the sitting Governor would as a matter of fact conduct a National Convention that will produce new party Executives that will be the pride of all”.
“It is believed that if the assignment is properly carried out, he would promptly return to constitutional duties of providing leadership in Yobe State.
“But what did we get? Buni’s ambition has taken the better part of him as he has totally neglected his executive duties to pay more attention to how he will manipulate and extend his tenure as APC Caretaker Chairman. He has abandoned the state completely and only visit once in a month.
“We therefore consider it imperative for us to leave our comfort zones to add our voices to the solutions that will restore the fate of the people of Yobe once again. As stakeholders, we have made both individual and collective efforts at letting Mai Mala Buni realized his mistakes but it appears that as we inch closer to making him realize, he digs in further into his sit-tight plans at the party’s secretariat.
“We therefore call on Yobe State House of Assembly to begin impeachment process if he fails to resign as Governor. In the event that he is no longer interested in being governor , we have many qualified people that can fit in and save our party and people in the state,” the group said.
