Senator Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has proven he is the true son of the soil as he was given a hero’s reception on his arrival to the state on Saturday.
Shortly after S
okoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, his predecessor, Aliyu Wamakko, reacted by saying people will know who runs the state when he returns home.
And like a movie scene photos of thousands of people on the streets of Sokoto jubilating and singing praises of him has circulated on the internet.
Wamakko, who represents Sokoto-north, had maintained that despite the governor’s defection, the All Progressives Congress remains in control of the state.
Meanwhile, some Twitter users flooded their timeline with photos of Wamakko’s return and also declared their support for president Buhari.
One Abu Bunza wrote on Twitter: “I knew Wamakko’s homecoming will be mad today. Those that were busy celebrating Tambuwal’s defection know nothing about Sokoto’s politics”.
Another Twitter user Bash Bunza did a thorough job of sharing photos and video clips of the heroic welcome in Sokoto.
@SadiqAbdullahi also wrote “Since 2015 elections, I was never happy the way I did when all those bad eggs of @OfficialPDPNig defects from @APCNigeria I think Allah is trying to sweep all those bad people out of this wonderful old man way @MBuhari. May Allah continue to guide and protect u Baba.”
The 65-year-old was elected governor of Sokoto State in April 2007 on PDP platform.
