Ipokia LG Chairman, Hon Avoseh Pledges Continued Collaboration with Security Agencies to Ensure Peace

Ipokia — The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Avoseh Johnson Akohomeh, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies and stakeholders to foster a crime-free and peaceful society. He emphasised that sustainable development can only thrive in a secure environment.

Hon. Avoseh made this declaration on Thursday, August 7, during an extraordinary peace and security meeting held at the Council Conference Room. He stressed the importance of synergy and strategic planning in combating crime effectively.

The meeting was attended by the Zonal Director (South West) of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), retired CP Abiodun Mustapha Alamutu, and his team. CP Alamutu (rtd.), who was on a courtesy visit to the council chairman, outlined the centre’s mandate as assigned by the Presidency and sought the council’s support in achieving its objectives within Ipokia.

According to CP Alamutu, the centre’s vision is to *”promote an illicit arms-free society,”* while its mission is *”to prevent and control the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in collaboration with stakeholders towards strengthening peace and security in Nigeria.”* Key objectives include institutionalising arms control at all government levels and integrating illicit arms eradication efforts into national discourse.

Also present at the meeting was the Opo of Idosemo, HRM Oba Idowu Igbowu, a retired police chief, who contributed his extensive security expertise during discussions.

The meeting concluded with a strong resolution by all participating security agencies and stakeholders to intensify efforts in eradicating crime, ensuring safety, and promoting lasting peace in the region.
