Officials Visit Ijebu-Ode Schools Over Suspected Chemical Leak

IJEBU-ODE, Ogun State – The Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, and the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello, have inspected Our Lady of Apostles Primary School in Ijebu-Ode following reports of a suspected chemical leak in the area.

The visit formed part of the state government’s emergency response to assess the situation and guarantee the safety of students, staff, and residents in the affected environment.

During the inspection, Hon. Bello also visited a neighbouring school, Sacred Heart Catholic College, to evaluate the impact of the incident and reassure school authorities of the government’s swift intervention.

The OGEPA boss later proceeded to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where some students affected by the suspected leak are currently receiving medical treatment.

To determine the cause of the incident, OGEPA has deployed and installed specialised monitoring equipment in the area to investigate the source of the suspected chemical leak.

The state government, through OGEPA, has assured residents and school authorities that investigations are ongoing. Officials added that necessary measures would be taken to safeguard public health and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
