The Chairman, Transition Committee, Odeda Local Government, Hon Semiu Bola Lawal has charged youths in the Council area to maximise opportunities inherent in acquiring new skills to better their lives and be economically independent. The Council boss gave the charge while flagging off the Speed-up Ogun skills acquisition programme in the council Secretariat on Tuesday 1st September, 2020.
The programme jointly organised by the local government and speed-up Nigeria, Ogun state chapter with the support of Necessary Measures Against Poverty and Perversity for Nigeria (NEMAPP) is aimed at training youths in various skills which will enable them to be self employed and reliant. The training runs from 1st to 15th September, 2020.
Speaking further at the event, the Council boss expressed his believe that the programme would sensitise the youths on the danger of unemployment and also equip them with the right skills they need to be economically independent and be employer of labour rather than looking for unavailable white collar jobs. Hon. Lawal, however, commended the Executive Director, Speed-up Ogun, Princess Gbemisola Ajetunmobi and the Director General (DG) NEMAPP, Hon. Olawunmi Ajetunmobi for the initiative.
In their separate speeches, Princess Gbemisola Ajetunmobi and Hon. Olawunmi Ajetunmobi appreciated the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, for supporting the Speed-up Ogun project.
Dignitaries at the event include the Council scribe, Mr. Adeboye Oyadina, the supervisor for works and housing, Mr Oluseye Somorin as well as Mrs Seliat Odunmbaku, the supervisor for health and community services. Others include the representative of the Olu of Osiele, Chief Sikiru Jinadu and principal career officers of the Local Government.
