NGOs, Women Groups Lauded for Societal Development

Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Women Groups in Ogun State have been commended for their support at ensuring that the society is a better place for everyone to live.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Efuwape, gave this commendation during a quarterly meeting of NGOs and Women Groups with the Ministry, held at the Women Development Center, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Oluwaranti Oladeinde, Efuwape said the meeting was aimed at strengthening women participation in the State’s activities, adding that the meeting was important, as it would further cement the cordial working relationship that exists between the Ministry and its various partners.

She urged the women not to relent in their efforts towards reducing social problems affecting girls and women in the society, saying, their involvement at ensuring that the society is better placed for everyone to reside was highly appreciated.

Delivering a lecture at the meeting, Barrister Damola Lapite, informed that, Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP LAW) of Ogun State 2017, was one of the efforts by the State Government to support the protection of the rights of the people.

Lapite explained further that most of the perpetrators of violence against persons, were members of the victims’ family and relatives, enjoining parents to avoid sentiments when those involved were family members.

Speaking on behalf of the NGOs and the Women Groups, Princess Keji Sijuade, appreciated the Ministry for organising such educative meeting, promising to put into practice the knowledge gained.
