National Sports Festival: Team Ogun arrives Abeokuta after historic Records

Over 250 members of Team Ogun that participated in just concluded National Sports Festival in Edo tagged “Edo 2020” arrived Abeokuta safely on Thursday Evening after superlative performances.

The Team led by the Director of Sports, Ogun State Sports Council, Mrs. Folakemi Iyabode Rotimi left the Games Villages at University of Benin, Ugbowo amidst jubilation and gratitude to the Almighty God for accident free and wonderful performance at the two weeks sports event.

Speaking with the Commissioner for Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde on telephone after the arrival of the team

“Our goal at the National Sports Festival was to consolidate our developmental plans and it did work. We had useful collaboration with other states; and we hope to build on it going forward,We are very proud for what we have achieved,”
“We Thank our amiable governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the supports and the confidence repost on us” the commissioner said.

It could be recalled that the first batch of the team left on Tuesday to Abeokuta with over seventy athletes having completed their various games at the festival.

The contingent, being the second batch traveled in three luxurious buses, coaster bus and many other vehicles while the security personnel attached to the team were at alert clearing the way for any unforseen circumstances along the highway.

Team Ogun has Surpassed their records of Eight (8) gold medals at Abuja 2018 , They have won 16 Gold, 23 Silver and 39 Bronze medals and finished eight on the medals table behind Team Delta who won the festival with 158 gold, 116 silver and 110 bronze medals, with host state, Team Edo was the first runner up with 129 gold, 104 silver and 108 bronze medals, just as Team Bayelsa settled for third place with 56 gold, 55 silver and 58 bronze medals.
