Fraudsters pretending to be islamic clerics arrested in Ogun

Efforts of the Ogun state Police Command in conjunction with members of the public to keep to their promise as revealed by the Inspector General of Police in keeping criminals away from the state has yielded another positive result as men of the command arrested three members of a gang that specialise in hiding under the cover of Islamic Clerics to defraud people.

It will be recalled that the Police Boss while receiving hundreds of patrol vehicles and motorcycles donated by the state government had stated that “I have spoken with the officers and they have also told me that the support the governor has been giving them. I have seen it myself and they have also promised that they will double their efforts to make sure that Ogun State is the safest state in this country.”

The arrest was made in Quarry road, a suburb in Abeokuta when one of the suspects attempted to collect their proceeds from one of their victims raised alarm to the people on the suspicion of the activities of the self acclaimed clerics.

The suspects who were also accused of raping their victims were later handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Adigbe and they include Alfa Sulaiman Arigbabuwo aka Imam Quadri, Yusuff Temiro also known as Adewale Oloko Ameed and one other man simply identified as Alhaji while another member of the gang escaped and now at large.

Items recovered from them include six mobile phones, one red Toyota Camry with number plate KRD 595 FU and some documents suspected to be fake.

The leader of the gang, Sulaiman Arigbabuwo was said to have used proceeds of the fraudulent practices to build a school, frozen food shop and three flats of three bedroom.

It will be recalled that the governor of the state Prince Dapo Abiodun had recently reported to have said “that no part in Ogun State is a safe haven for criminals and criminality in whatever form. Whether on the Lagos- Ibadan, Sagamu- Benin-Ore, Abeokuta- Sango- Lagos expressways or even our township roads or interstate roads, we shall smoke them out. We shall arrest them and hand them over to [face] justice.”
