EXCLUSIVE: Governor Amosun Again! Lobbies Buhari with Chief Imams

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has perfected plans to lure  Chief Imams in Ogun State to Abuja any moment from now, to lobby President Muhammad Buhari in support of  Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, Amosun’s anointed candidate for the 2019 governorship election.

AmosunHaving failed last week  in his desperate bid to use two paramount rulers, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and the Olu of  Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, to convince President Muhammadu Buhari to support Akinlade, who never participated in the governorship primaries conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC), of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Amosun has been using various means to blackmail and arm-twist President Buhari who has vowed not to interfere in the running of the party.

A reliable source close to the League of Imam and Alfa in Egbaland, informed Newsacross that Governor Amosun has directed the Ogun State Chapter of the League of Imams and Alfa’s to pick two senior Imams from each of the 20 Local Governments Areas in Ogun State for the trip slated for tomorrow. They are to be flown to Abuja via Arik Airline. The Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, is coordinating the trip.

Apart from the return tickets for the contingent totaling about 50 Imams, the state government has also earmarked one million naira each to be disbursed to the intending Abuja pilgrims.

Our source reliably informed that Governor Amosun, sold a dummy to the Imams that President Buhari wanted to see them in Abuja. On getting to Abuja, the Imams will be given money and told what to tell President Buhari when he receives the in audience.

However, it could not be confirmed whether the trip would be made by Imams from Ijebu and Remo axises  of Ogun East Senatorial District,  where the APC governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, hails from. Meanwhile, some Imams in Egba are also showing reluctance in going. A popular preacher told our correspondent that: “if we go, it is just to collect the mon y, which is our own share of Ogun money. Is it now that we are important? You will call him severally, he won’t pick your calls, he won’t reply your texts. He is just too selfish, very selfish”.

Just yesterday, Governor Amosun stage-managed a protest in Abeokuta by Local Government Councilors in support of his candidate. Many of the Councilors who took part in the protest regretted that the governor only gave them N10, 000 each. “Are we that cheap? I came from Imeko with my colleagues, if we remove transportation and feeding, nothing is left of the 10k, what of those from Waterside and Ijebu East, yet they gave us the same amount with Councilors from  Abeokuta. Who knows, the governor may have given them more than that to give us ”, one of the Councilors bemoaned.
