Preparations are on at a feverish pitch as the outgoing Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, prepares to host President Muhammadu Buhari for the commissioning of what he terms “Legacy Projects” (a term borrowed from former Osun Governor , Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola) Ogun State
Investigations by Newsaccross revealed that almost all of the “legacy projects” are far from being completed and they may end up being legacy projects of dishonesty. Our reporters found out that even if Governor Amosun is a magician, he cannot complete those projects between now and when the President is expected to commission the projects on Saturday.
So, why the rush? It is believed that Governor Amosun wants to use the coming of President Buhari to ward-off likely investigations by EFCC on his alleged monumental fraud. The issue of 24 models Schools was cited. Out of about 24 model schools for which over N30billion has been released as 100 percent payment, only one is partially functional. Others are very far from being completed, yet contractors said to be Amosun’s cronies have collected 100 percent payment.
The Judges Quarters slated for commissioning by Mr. President only had its frontage plastered and painted in white colour when our reporter visited on Wednesday.
The most shocking was the medical centre that the governor is touting to be the best in Nigeria and West Africa. In desperation to impress Abuja, Governor Amosun took Channels TV to an uncompleted building where he put medical equipment. Unfortunately, the Channels TV cameraman revealed in his shots that even the room where the medical equipment was placed was yet to be fully plastered.
The proposed ten lane flyover at Kuto roundabout Abeokuta was yet to be be fully casted. Iron rods from some of the concrete works were very visible even as at Thursday evening when Newsacross visited on Thursday evening.
A resident expressed serious fears about the quality of the jobs being rushed: “My fear is the quality of works as per engineering standard.”
The security agencies are aware of all these machinations of Governor Amosun to pull a wool over President Buhari’s eye. Wether they will keep mum and be compromised to be part of the grand deceit of Mr. President is what the people of Ogun State are waiting for.
The cat was inadvertently let out of the bag, when the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Amosun, Mr. Rotimi Durojaiye, said on Channels TV Ten O’Clock News on Thursday evening that the government “just want to make the road motorable, it is the incoming government that will complete the road project”.
Should the President decides to come, It could be predicted that notable leaders of the All Progressives Party (APC) will not be in attendance as, according to a source, they won’t want to be part of the grand plan to deceive Mr. President.
