Daniel’s supporters mulling PDP return

With the way the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership both at the national and state levels has treated the issue of Ogun East senator-elect, Gbenga Daniel’s anti-party activities and betrayal of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the party, his (Daniel’s) supporters are said to be deeply concerned about their status in APC and their political future.

Already, many of them are said to have visited the former governor and told him to allow them to cross over to the PDP, their natural habitat and the party from which they joined APC. Their argument is that they were the ones who gave the Ogun PDP candidate, Ladi Adebutu, massive support during the March 18 governorship election in the state, and moving to their former party would not be so out of place.

Daniel’s supporters and allies are further said to have argued that with what is happening now, they may no longer be reckoned with in the Ogun APC fold and at the federal level and may be sidelined in the scheme of things because of his (Daniel’s) abandonment of the party at the governorship polls.

Indeed, according to sources, some of Daniel’s supporters are already discussing with the national secretariat of the PDP about their potential move to PDP, believing that the Adebutu structure in the Ogun PDP would readily accommodate them.

But sources in the know also say that the supporters have resolved not to leave APC “without making a political statement.” They are said to have decided to ensure that they wreck and destabilize APC before formally porting to PDP. To do this, it was learnt, they resolved to utilize a social media/conventional media strategy of launching acerbic attacks on Dapo Abiodun and his administration, as well as the Ogun APC leadership, accusing them of incompetence, corruption and unfairness in intra-party affairs, etc.
