Breaking: Ogun Declares Friday, Work-Free Day Ahead of Local Elections

The Ogun State Government has announced that Friday, November 15, 2024, will be a work-free day for civil and public servants. This decision, made by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, aims to enable citizens to travel to their local governments and participate in the upcoming local elections on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) will conduct elections for chairmen of the 20 local government areas and 236 ward councillors. This move aligns with the current administration’s principles of inclusiveness and participatory democracy.

Permanent secretaries and heads of government agencies have been directed to comply with the circular. The declaration is expected to facilitate smooth voting processes and encourage active citizenship.

The local government elections are a significant aspect of Ogun State’s democratic process, and this work-free day is intended to promote civic engagement and participation.
