The Ogun state chapter of People’s Democratic Party, PDP has described as “irrational and contradictory” the purported suspension of some members of the party by a group loyal to Hon Ladi Adebutu.
In a statement released by state secretary of the party, Rapheal Olaosebikan, the party described as action of the action as an “ugly scenario of usurpation of functions of the state Executive Council.”
Olaosebikan expressed as worry as to the intent of some party members a leaders “to disunite the party over unmitigated ambitions particularly at this electioneering period when the unity of members of the party should be of uppermost importance.”
“The state Chairman, Chief Samson Bamgbose, led other SEC members to express shock and utter dismay at the ugly scenario of usurpation of functions of the SEC to disunite the party over unmitigated ambitions particularly at this electioneering period when the unity of members of the party should be of uppermost importance”
On Tuesday, a faction of the PDP in the state loyal to Hon. Ladi Adebutu had announced the expulsion of a governorship aspirant of the party, Otunba Jimi Lawal for gross misconduct, forgery, anti-party activities and disobedience to party’s constitution.
Others expelled alongside Jimi Lawal are: Muyiwa Odebiyi, Moruf Olajide and Ademola Ojoye.
Also reacting, Austin Oniyokor, Project Director, Jimi Adebisi Lawal Campaign Organization (JALCO), said the expulsion “the purported suspension and illegal expulsion are comical acts taken too far”.
“This is a joke taken too far. Indeed, it is illegality upon illegality, all amounting to illegalities. How can these people take such a step when the initial illegal act is already a subject of litigation at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta; and the parties, including the active participants had been served the court summons”, Oniyokor stated.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta had ordered fresh primaries into all elective positions of Ogun state chapter PDP siting non-adherance with the electoral act.
The statement reads:
ENOUGH OF VEXATIOUS USURPATION : THERE’S NO SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION IN OGUN PDP.
At the state executive committee (SEC) meeting held on 2nd November 2022 in Abeokuta; the irrational gales of suspension and expulsion of some members of the party by two groups in contradiction of themselves within the party was unequivocally condemned. The state Chairman, Chief Samson Bamgbose, led other SEC members to express shock and utter dismay at the ugly scenario of usurpation of functions of the SEC to disunite the party over unmitigated ambitions particularly at this electioneering period when the unity of members of the party should be of uppermost importance.
This is also to make it clear that the tolerance and accommodation by the current Ogun PDP state exco of actions of some notable members that are outreaching themselves is to avoid disunity and dismemberment of our great party as is unfortunately now being unreasonably propelled. Henceforth, the SEC shall act decisively against these erring members if caution is not adopted by conformity with provisions of the party’s constitution and rule of law.
Raphael Olaosebikan.
State Secretary.
PDP, Ogun State.
