BREAKING: FG Begins ₦50,000 Monthly Cash Support for Vulnerable Nigerians

The Federal Government has commenced a monthly cash relief programme providing ₦50,000 to vulnerable households across the country to cushion the effects of rising living costs.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, announced the development in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, describing the initiative, known as the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), as a presidential programme designed to provide immediate financial assistance to millions of vulnerable Nigerians.

According to the minister, the intervention was introduced in response to global food inflation and the increasing cost of essential goods, which continue to put pressure on households.

Under the programme, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly, with the intervention subject to periodic reviews based on prevailing economic conditions.

Doro explained that the ministry was working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure, transparent and timely disbursement of the funds directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts or mobile wallets.

He added that beneficiaries would receive text messages from the approved providers requesting their consent before payments are made.

The minister stressed that Nigerians are not required to apply, pay any fee or register through agents to benefit from the programme.

He consequently warned against fraudsters, advising beneficiaries not to disclose their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to anyone.

For enquiries or suspected fraudulent messages, Nigerians were advised to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

The minister said the intervention complements existing Federal Government social protection and economic support programmes and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
