Breaking: Amosun’s Adviser on Social Media quits

Another setback hit the camp of Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as his Special Adviser on Social Media, Mr. Raheem Ajayi, has quit the governor’s cabinet.

Ajayi, popularly called “Comrade Baglo”, tendered his resignation through a text message to the governor after his failure to meet the 48 hours ultimatum given to him by the governor to accept the job of the Publicity Secretary of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and spokesperson for the party’s governorship candidate.

It was an agitated Governor Amosun that summoned a meeting of his inner caucus last Saturday to discuss the appointment of Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye and Pastor Remmy Hazzan as the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee, and Spokesperson to APC’s governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun respectively.

The meeting was attended by the Director-General of Campaign of APM, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola, Commissioner for Community Development, Mr. Gbenga Adenmosun, Raheem Ajayi, APM governorship candidate Hon. Kunle Akinlade and some other leaders. Alhaja Ishola expressed his worry over the appointment of Oladunjoye and Hazzan, saying that it was a “dangerous combination” and that something must be done to respond to the co-ordinated response which Oladunjoye has started giving before Hazzan will follow suit.

Immediately his name was mentioned for the post of publicity secretary, Ajayi sprang up to reject the offer. Alhaji Ishola pleaded with him to accept the offer. Governor Amosun cut in and said he gave Ajayi 48 hours to make up his mind.

Ajayi stormed out of the meeting and immediately left for Lagos. On Wednesday, Ajayi sent a terse text message to the governor thanking him for the offer of publicity secretary but declining same. He also informed the governor that he was quitting his appointment as a Special Adviser to the governor.

A source said Ajayi refused to serve as publicity secretary to APM because he did not believe in the cause of Akinlade. “He was publicity secretary to the People’s Party of Nigeria (PPN) then, funded by former governor Gbenga Daniel and has learnt his lesson”, the source said. Ajayi has remained in Lagos since Saturday and he is not expected to return to Ogun State any time soon.
