2027: Olowu of Owu Backs Adeola’s Governorship Bid, Bestows Development Title

ABEOKUTA — The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adeola Matemimola, has expressed support for the governorship aspiration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

The monarch also bestowed the traditional title of “Are Bobatolu of Owu Kingdom” on Adeola in recognition of what he described as the senator’s development efforts and commitment to infrastructure development within Owu Kingdom and other parts of Ogun Central Senatorial District.

Oba Matemimola spoke when Adeola and his running mate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, visited his palace in Abeokuta.

The monarch said development remained a major priority for traditional rulers, noting that the ultimate objective was to improve the welfare and living conditions of people in their domains.

He said he was aware of Adeola’s interventions in the senator’s primary constituency and other parts of the state, including road projects within Owu communities.

“I am a lover of development and impacting on the lives of my people. That was the reason for the establishment of the Olowu Hope Initiatives, which is impacting on 200,000 people daily,” the monarch said.

He added that Adeola’s development efforts informed his decision to confer the title on the APC candidate.

“I am therefore bestowing on you the title of ‘Are Bobatolu of Owu Kingdom’ for your development strides and your promises to do more as elected Governor,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Osi of Egbaland, High Chief Bode Mustapha, said he and some other Egba leaders, including former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun, had supported Adeola’s political journey for about 13 years.

Mustapha said their support was based on their conviction that Adeola had the capacity to govern Ogun State.

Another traditional ruler, the Towulade of Akinale Owu, Oba Oluseyi Adediran, also expressed confidence in Adeola’s capacity to govern the state.

He cited the completion of a two-kilometre critical link road in his area as one of the senator’s interventions.

Earlier, Adeola told the royal fathers that he was not a stranger to the Olowu Palace, noting that he had consistently identified with development initiatives in Owu communities.

He said his visit was aimed at seeking the royal blessings and support of the traditional institution and Owu people for his 2027 governorship aspiration.

Adeola said his government interventions had consistently been designed to create positive impacts on the people, citing his empowerment programmes and infrastructure projects.

“I am happy that the Olowu is impacting on 200,000 people per day through the Olowu Hope Initiatives. I am going to partner with the initiative now and in the future for more beneficial impact,” he said.

The visit forms part of Adeola’s engagements with traditional institutions and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
