Soldier Killed As Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack In Borno

The Nigerian Army says it has repelled a suspected Boko Haram attack on Gudumbali community in northern Borno State on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Deputy Director Public Relations of the Theatre Command, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, said the terrorists had disguised as humanitarian workers during the distribution of relief materials.

According to Nwachukwu, although they attempted to launch an attack on the community and on troops location, the army successfully overpowered the attackers, leaving many of them injured and some dead.

A large amount of ammunition including eight rocket-propelled grenades were also recovered.

One soldier was, however, killed in the process, while another was injured and a truck belonging to the unit, was damaged.

Some others who were reportedly dislodged by the assailants are said to be taking refuge in a nearby military location at Damasak.

The spokesperson says the troops are at alert for the fleeing insurgents in the area.
