One dies, as Ogun Customs intercepts military truck-head in Ogun

Acting on a reliable intelligent gathering, officers of the Ogun State Area Command of Nigeria Customs has discovered and seized a military truck-head hidden by smugglers.

At the spot of the encounter, it was a tug of war as the scrupulous members of the community tried all means to prevent the moving of the vehicle from the hideout.

According to a release by the Command Public Relation Officer, A. A. Maiwada, officers of Nigeria Customs Service Ogun Command on routine patrol based on credible intelligence at about 0830hours trailed a military truck-head smuggled into Nigeria and kept at Ebute Community.

In an attempt to secure the said vehicle, some unscrupulous members of the community mobilized themselves by blocking the access road and started pelting Customs personnel with stones, bottles, cutlasses, sticks and other dangerous items.

Maiwada said “considering the implication of such truck to national security, our Officers resisted and called for reinforcement to cordon the area for the safe evacuation of the truck.

“Unfortunately, during the encounter, one of the hoodlums was shot at the upper part of his leg (pelvic girdle) and consequently died.

“Meanwhile, normalcy has since been returned with intervention of Police and Military personnel”.

However, the truck has been secured at Customs House Abeokuta for further investigation.

Maidawa on behalf of the Comptroller Area Commander, commended the patriotic role of sister Agencies, Traditional leaders, eminent personalities and some host communities who have always partnered with the Command in her quest to effectively secure Nigeria.
