
ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State House of Assembly marked the first anniversary of its leadership change today, with Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide highlighting significant progress in legislative activities.
Speaking at a press conference in the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Rt. Hon. Elemide announced the passage of eleven bills and over 42 resolutions aimed at promoting peace, order, and good governance in the state.
The Speaker also revealed that the Assembly received over 90 petitions during the year, primarily concerning land-grabbing activities across various constituencies. He emphasized the importance of the recently passed anti-land grabbing bill, now signed into law, and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to prosecute offenders.
Rt. Hon. Elemide described the legislature as the bedrock of democracy and stressed the importance of collaboration among all branches of government. He noted the cordial relationship between the Assembly and the executive arm, which he believes has contributed to the state’s overall development.
Acknowledging the support of his fellow lawmakers, the Speaker cited sections 91 and 92 of the Constitution, which empower the House of Assembly to appoint its leadership. He also announced the resolution of the legal dispute with the former Speaker, who returned to the Assembly today to resume his legislative duties.
Addressing the ongoing issue of herder-farmer clashes, Rt. Hon. Elemide reiterated that the Assembly had already passed the anti-open grazing bill and that enforcement now rests with security agencies.
