Ministry Staff Lauded for Record Performance, Urged to Build on Success in 2026

ABEOKUTA – Staff of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPP&UD) have been commended for their outstanding output in the past year and charged to redouble their efforts for greater achievements in 2026.

The Commissioner, TPl. Olatunji Odunlami, gave the commendation during a special staff assembly in Abeokuta, describing the event as both an avenue to unwind and to assess the significant successes recorded in 2025.

He revealed that the Ministry surpassed its 2024 budget performance by over 150 per cent, a feat he directly attributed to the dedication and collective effort of the staff. This remarkable achievement, Odunlami stated, necessitated the recognition of top-performing units through an awards ceremony.

Highlighting key milestones, the Commissioner outlined the development of an e-platform for planning permit applications, reviewed regulations, and newly developed building codes currently before the Ogun State House of Assembly. He also noted that preparatory stages for full automation of the planning process and the induction training of new officers are underway.

While celebrating the past year’s victories, Odunlami charged the team not to rest on its laurels. He urged them to outperform the 2025 record and continue diligently implementing the vision and mandate of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Sakirudeen Abdulsalaam, said the gathering provided a valuable opportunity for staff to relax, enjoy themselves, and give thanks for life and the year’s accomplishments.

The ceremony attracted goodwill messages from fellow State Executive Council members, including the Commissioners for Industry, Trade and Investment, Hon. Adebola Sofela; Culture and Tourism, Chief Sesan Fagbayi; and Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo. They each lauded the MPP&UD staff for their excellence and encouraged them to deliver their best in the coming year.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of Awards of Recognition for Excellence to distinguished officers and the presentation of cheques to retired staff in acknowledgement of their meritorious service.
