Ijebu North LG Boss, Bolaji Odusanya Calls for Unity in the Fight Against Malaria
In a concerted effort to eradicate malaria from the region, Executive Chairman Bolaji Odusanya has launched a significant initiative to distribute Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) to all households in Ijebu North Local Government.
The project, a collaborative effort between the Federal and State Governments, Roll Back Malaria, and the local government, aims to distribute hundreds of thousands of ITNs to combat the prevalent mosquito-borne disease.
“Malaria remains a major public health challenge, particularly affecting pregnant women and children under five,” said Bolaji. “By providing free ITNs, we can significantly reduce malaria cases and save lives.”
He noted that Ogun State is one of the states that is being faced with high degree of malaria illness caused by mosquito bites as such the aim of the program is to put a total reduction and end to this malaria bite menace.
“I am concerned that Malaria is a major public health problem in Nigerian with larger percantage of the population at risk especially pregnant women and children under 5 years”
“No doubt, Malaria has caused us so many lives and had made of us to get sick in the past and is still causing more deaths and this is why Government at all levels in conjunctions with local and global partners are coming together to put an end to this menace”
” The Government and Roll Back Malaria have provided Insecticide Treated mosquito nets free of charge to all households to protect you and your families from malaria”
“Now we can protect ourselves from malaria by hanging and sleeping inside the Insecticide Treated mosquito Nets every night” he said.
The council boss charges the people of the Local Government to take the advantage of the program by going to the designated spot that is closer to them to register so that they will be given the mosquito nets.
“I hereby urge our people to be available during the registration and distribution of the nets”
” Once your Household is being captured after you are done providing the correct information, just go to the nearest spot between 19th to 23rd November, 2024 to collect your nets”
He applauded the medical team handling the projects and charged the people to speak out if anyone tries to sell the net to them
“This Insecticide Treated mosquito nets is free of charge to all households and it is meant to protect you and your families from malaria, so, if anyone come to you and tell you to buy, report such individual or group”
“I must confess that am pleased with the way the training of Ad-hoc staff went and the professionalism of our medical team is top-notch, so, am optimistic that they will deliver and handle the net distribution program well” said Bolaji.
While appreciating the continued support of development partners, State and Federal Government and the traditional institutions towards the eradication of malaria, the Chairman also urges the households to cooperate with the personnel deployed for the exercise to ensure its success.
The Executive Chairman , Mr Bolaji was also decorated as Ijebu North Net advocate with an award being presented to the Chairman.
