A former Councillor representing Odeda ward one (1) in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Oladimeji Soetan has raised an alarm over an attempt to assassinate him by some agents of the All Progressive Congress-led government in Ogun State.
Addressing Pressmen on Monday in Abeokuta, the state capital, the trained teacher turned Politician said his undoing was dated back to the year 2012 when he emerged as Councillor representing his political ward in his council area against all odds set against him by the state government.
Soetan said efforts by some top gladiators of the APC Formally Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN) in the state to make him ditch his political party under which he became councilor was roundly rejected by him in all angles hence the beginning of his problem with the state government.
The father of two said the recent onslaught against him may be unconnected to his decision to contest to represent his people in the State House of Assembly in 2019 general elections.
Narrating his ordeal before members of the press in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Monday, the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said he may seek asylum in Oversea if the pains of living in his fatherland become unbearable to him.
He revealed that he might relocate to other countries if something is not urgently done by the security apparatus in the State to save him and his family from political persecution which he said is not ordinary.
“I’m seriously facing political persecution by All Progressive Congress (APC) because of my ambition to become a House of Assembly member in 2019 and because of my influence and popularity within my people and more importantly I belong to the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP)“ he said.
Speaking further, the grassroots politician said “My problem started since January 10th 2012 during my electioneering campaign as councilor when I was attacked by the hired assassin, I was injured on my head and several other people that followed my campaign trail was injured as well. It’s on record that I’m one of the eight opposition candidates that eventually won councillorship position out of two hundred and twenty-five councillorship position conducted by ACN led government on July 21st, 2012.
“My victory in 2012 local government election became a serious headache for the ruling party APC formally ACN and they planned to kill me before the swearing day, on July 29th I was attacked on my way to Ogboye village but the quick intervention of village vigilante groups that made me escaped.
“I sought for protection from the police but there was no help and the reason was that my political party was not in government. My political persecution resurfaces again on November 2nd, 2016 when I picked up interest form from my part PDP for the post of State Assembly member for my local government Odeda. This time around, they said is a do or die affairs and they Will not allowed me to record another history as an opposition party like that of 2012.
While answering questions from pressmen, the educationist said the issue of political assassination in Nigeria has become worrisome that has claimed the life of highly intelligent people with good intentions to govern the country, people like late Dele Arojo,GODWIN AGBROKO, ABAYOMI OGUNDEJI, Funsho Williams, Ayo Daramola, Dipo Dina, Abubakar Audu, Ogbonaya Uche, Odunayo Omobolanle Olagbaju, Lateef Olaniyan just to mention a few and the riddles surrounding their sudden deaths remained unsolved till today.
