EDO 2020 BOXING DISPUTE: OGUN RETURNS TO COMPETITION ASSURED OF JUSTICE

Team Ogun which earlier walked out of the ongoing finals of the Boxing Championship at the National Sports Festival holding in Edo State, has returned to the competition.

The Ogun coaches, boxers, officials and supporters had walked out of the competition in protest against the results of the final boxing contest between Lagos boxer, Shittu Afolabi, and Ogun boxer, Kasali Abayomi, in the 52kg category, which ended in a 3-2 split decision in favour of the Lagos boxer.

In a brief meeting with the Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde and members of the Ogun delegation outside the venue, the officials assured the Ogun contingent that the matter will be addressed.

“The referee’s decision will be reversed. Don’t worry, it was very clear and open to everybody. We will reverse it”, one of the officials (name withheld) said.

The Boxing Federation officials, appealed to the Ogun Commissioner to return with his entourage to the competition and thereafter posed for pictures with the Ogun delegation.

The Team Ogun later returned to the hall for the continuation of the finals.
Ogun State eventually won gold medal at the 64kg lightweight bout with Tijani Latifat
