COURT STOPS OSPAA ELECTORAL COMMITTEE FROM CONDUCTING ELECTION

A court in Iragbiji, Osun State, has issued an interim injunction restraining the Electoral Committee of the Osun State Polytechnic Alumni Association (OSPAA) from conducting elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

The court order specifically bars the committee from holding the National Convention of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Alumni Association to conduct elections into the offices of the Alumni Association pending the determination of the case.

The court order sighted by our correspondent says

“(i) AN ORDER OF INTERIM INJUNCTION restraining the Defendants, their agents, servants and any other person howsoever relating to the Defendants or acting for or on their behalf from holding National Convention of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Alumni Association on Saturday the 7th day of December, 2024 to conduct election into the offices of the Alumni Association pending the determination of the case.

COURT “ORDER AS PRAYED”

Order of this Honourable Court is hereby granted restraining the Defendants their agents, servants and any other person howsoever relating to the Defendant or acting for on their behalf from holding a biennial convention of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Alumni Association on Saturday, the 7th day of December 2024 to conduct election into offices of the Alumni Association pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice for interim Injunction The Applicant shall put the Defendants on notice with all necessary processes in this suit” it reads

In response to the court injunction, the OSPAA Electoral Committee has announced that the forthcoming election has been put on hold. According to the Chairman of the OSPAA Electoral Committee, Cde-Akin Asifat-Gofment, the committee was constrained from proceeding with election preparations due to the court order.

Asifat-Gofment described the injunction as a “clear reflection of desperation and quest for holding on to power by the few.” Despite this setback, the Chairman reassured members that the association remains committed to upholding the values enshrined in its constitution.
