BREAKING: APC Sweeps Ogun Council Polls As Results Trickle In, Group Scores Exercise High Despite Apathy

Strong indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, may win all the slots of the Saturday, Local Government elections to elect Chairmanship and vice-chairmanship, as well as councilorship officers into 20 Local Government Areas, going by results from wards and council areas so far.

Though, the exercise, marred with apathy, hitches and pockets of violence, was adjudged to be generally peaceful across the state.

Security apparatus were adequately deployed across the state to ensure safety of lives and property of citizens. They were seen moving in convoy patrolling some areas.

The Ogun state Commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun were seen led police personnel to trouble prone areas to maintain peace.

OGSIEC, had earlier stated that the results of the polls would be announced by the presiding officers at each polling unit and subsequently, the final results will be announced by it after collations across councils.

One of the early results received by newsacross.com showed APC sweeping the votes in Odeda local government.

For example the chairmanship candidate of APC in Odeda scores 1,999 votes in Osiele Ward while the Councillorship Candidate scores 2,009 votes.
In Odeda Ward 1, she scores 2,101 votes while the Councillorship score is 2,097 votes.

News also gathered that Mrs Folasade Adeyemo under the APC platform in Odeda local government, emerged winner with an emphatic result. Official Details of results have been received by newsacross.com but awaited official announcement as at the press time.

Same reports of APC winning filtered in from such councils as; Abeokuta south, Abeokuta North, Ijebu East, Odogbolu, Ewekoro, Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Ijebu Ode, Yewa North, Yewa south, Ikenne among others.

Situation reports

Meantime, There were reported cases of violence in Ohunbe ward Yewa North. According to the report AA party members led by one Michael Ogunola a.k.a Jagunmola attacked the officials of OGISIEC this evening around Kingola Filling Station Oja Odan and set all electoral materials and ballot box ablaze after the election.

The attackers include Michael Ogunola ( Jagunmola) , Lekan Baba Eleja, OSA, Focus and Kowiy.

The people of the area are calling on the Ogun State Government to ensure justice is done.

It was also discovered that majority of political parties did not deploy party agents to the polls: APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, agents were the only party agents seen in the majority of the polling units visited.

While other party agents were seen in few polling units.

COVID-19 compliance

No strict compliance with COVID-19 Protocol:

Polling officials and voters were not adhering to the COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical safety protocol and physical distancing.

Also,some of the election monitoring groups commended OGSIEC for ensuring free, fair and transparent exercise in order to boost citizens confidence in the council election process.

The group also expressed fears over possible apathy that could mar the exercise in view of the low sensitization of electorate.
