ABEOKUTA/LAGOS – British-Nigerian boxing superstar Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road traffic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway earlier today, resulting in two fatalities, according to a joint statement released by the Governments of Ogun and Lagos States.

The accident occurred when a vehicle carrying Joshua and three others collided with a stationary truck. Two individuals in the vehicle succumbed to their injuries.

The statement, signed by Ogun State’s Special Adviser on Information, Kayode Akinmade, and Lagos State’s Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that Joshua and another passenger were swiftly evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos.

“Following comprehensive clinical assessments, doctors have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time,” the governments stated. They added that a full medical team is monitoring the patients closely and that Joshua is conscious and has communicated with his family.

Authorities extended their deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and assured the public that investigations into the cause of the accident have begun. Both state governments pledged to ensure the affected persons receive the best possible care.

The statement concluded with an appeal for privacy for Joshua and his family as they manage the aftermath of the tragic incident.
