Widows Receive Support at Ipokia Local Government Empowerment Programme

Ipokia – The Vice Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Grace Okewole, has passionately appealed to widows across the country not to be overwhelmed by their challenges but to remain resilient, take charge of their lives, and prioritize the well-being of their children while placing their hope in God.

Hon. Okewole made this call on Thursday during a Widows Empowerment and Recognition Programme held at the Ipokia Local Government Executive Chairman’s Office, where she engaged widows from all twelve wards of the council area. Sharing her personal experience, she revealed that her mother, also a widow, raised her with dedication, which contributed to her success today. Drawing from biblical teachings, she reminded the widows that “Jesus Christ is the husband of widows.”

The event, initiated and sponsored by Hon. Okewole, featured the distribution of financial and material gifts to the widows. The initiative received strong backing from the Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Avoseh Johnson Akohome, who praised the Vice Chairman for her compassionate efforts.

Hon. Avoseh encouraged the widows to accept the support with gratitude, regardless of its size, and assured them of more assistance programmes in the future. Reflecting on his own childhood, he recounted how his mother single-handedly managed the family after his father’s sudden demise, an effort that shaped his life. In solidarity, Hon. Avoseh contributed bags of rice and other essential items to support the initiative.

The Council Chairman also highlighted his administration’s achievements across the twelve wards of Ipokia, promising more developmental projects. He called for continued public support to transform the local government into “a paradise on earth.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Ipokia, Hon. Taiwo Zinsu Whepetoji, also addressed the gathering, assuring the widows of God’s and the government’s support. He commended Hon. Avoseh for his developmental strides and urged eligible residents to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The event was attended by key officials, including the Local Government Secretary, Hon. Johnson Olushola Babajide; Head of Administration, Mr. Senapon Emmanuel Pogbe; Director of Administration and General Services, Mr. Abiodun Adeogun; and Special Advisers Hon. Adelabu David, Hon. Hunpe Peter, and Hon. Junaid Morufu Alao.
