President Tinubu Arrives in Lagos for Working Visit Ahead of Low-Key Independence Day

LAGOS – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Friday for a working visit as part of activities leading to Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, which is expected to be a low-key celebration.

The President’s trip to the former federal capital followed his attendance at the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to a statement from the State House, President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with key players from Nigeria’s private sector and senior government officials during his stay in Lagos.

The visit is part of a series of official engagements surrounding the nation’s anniversary. The President will travel to Imo State on Tuesday, September 30, to commission projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration.

A significant highlight of the anniversary events will be the commissioning of the newly remodelled National Theatre in Lagos. The iconic cultural landmark has been renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts in honour of the Nobel laureate.

The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, on September 26, 2025.
