Ogun State Seals Four Industries for Environmental Violations

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Government has taken decisive action against four industries for flouting state environmental laws, sealing their premises in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The enforcement was carried out by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA). The affected companies are Aristocrate Industries Limited, Plenco Industries Limited, Nanfang Industrial Limited, and Xinphang Plastic Limited.

Hon. Farouk Akintunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA, announced the closures during an interview with journalists in his Abeokuta office. He detailed the specific violations committed by each company.

According to Akintunde, Nanfang Industrial Limited and Plenco Industries Limited were sealed for failing to install an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). This critical omission led to the direct discharge of untreated industrial wastewater into the environment, a practice with severe consequences for public health.

The OGEPA boss further revealed that Xinphang Plastic Limited, a plastic recycling plant, was shut down for operating without the necessary government approvals. Similarly, Aristocrate Industries Limited, which produces flexible packaging, was sealed for repeatedly denying OGEPA officials access to its facilities for inspection.

Hon. Akintunde expressed strong disapproval of the companies’ non-compliance, warning that such disregard for environmental standards is detrimental to the well-being of citizens and the ecosystem.

“The trend of non-compliance is unhealthy for the health of our citizens and our environment,” Akintunde stated. “We will not tolerate any action that compromises the safety and well-being of the people of Ogun State. This enforcement serves as a stern warning to all industries to operate within the ambit of the law.”

The state government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations to ensure sustainable industrial growth and protect residents from hazardous pollution.
