Ogun Shuts Down Factory for Polluting Community River

The Ogun State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Harvest Feed and Processing Ltd, located along Ajura-Ogere-Iperu Road, for allegedly polluting Molibu River, the only water source for the surrounding community.
The shutdown followed a petition from the Agura Youth Development Association, accusing the factory of discharging wastewater into the river, thereby contaminating it and endangering residents’ health.
Hon. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Chairman of the State Task Force on Environmental Compliance, confirmed the action. He stated that the polluted river posed serious risks, including waterborne diseases, as it serves as the primary source of water for domestic use.
“The community depends on this river for washing, bathing, and other daily needs, but it has now been contaminated,” Akintunde said.
He explained that the closure was necessary to allow a thorough investigation into the factory’s waste disposal practices and prevent further environmental harm. Akintunde also warned that the state would not hesitate to sanction any facility violating environmental regulations.
The state government has vowed to enforce strict compliance with environmental laws to safeguard public health and natural resources.
