Ipokia LGA Harvests Success in Pilot Tomato Farm, Announces Agricultural Expansion

IPOKIA, Ogun State – In a significant step towards fulfilling its campaign promises, the Ipokia Local Government Administration has announced a promising start to its agricultural revival program, following the successful harvest of a pilot tomato farm.

The project, harvested on Wednesday, September 17, was established to test the viability of large-scale tomato cultivation in the area. The government has declared the output “highly encouraging,” providing the confidence needed to scale up operations with more significant investments.

The Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, through the Office of Media and Public Engagement, stated that the results prove the local soil and environment are “highly suitable” for tomato cultivation. As a direct result, plans are already underway to expand the farm to produce on a scale that can be branded as “Ipokia Local Government Tomatoes.”

“This is not just farming, this is an agricultural revolution. This is our contribution to food security, and we will continue to project and promote agriculture across Ipokia Local Government,” the statement read.

The tomato initiative is just one part of a broader agricultural strategy. The administration also confirmed it has revisited the contracts and policies governing the local government’s two existing oil palm plantations to ensure they align with current realities and best practices. Officials have already visited and inspected these plantations as part of the review process.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to its agrarian legacy, the statement affirmed, “Ipokia is a land of farming, and we are determined to build on that legacy.” These efforts are described as being in direct alignment with the ISEYA initiative of the Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun, CON.

This move signals a concrete effort by the local government to stimulate economic growth through agriculture, enhance food security, and create opportunities within the agrarian sector.
