Breaking: Segun Adewale Resigns from PDP, Set to Join African Democratic Congress (ADC)

In a significant blow to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a prominent chieftain in Lagos State, Otunba Segun Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland has formally resigned his membership from the party, citing prolonged internal crises and the divisive actions of fellow leader Chief Bode George as the primary reasons for his departure. Sources close to the former stalwart confirm his next destination will be the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a resignation letter addressed directly to the National Chairman of the PDP at the party’s Abuja headquarters, Adewale declared his exit effective immediately, ending a nearly two-decade-long association with the party.

The letter detailed a scathing indictment of the party’s leadership in Lagos, specifically targeting Chief Bode George. Adewale accused George and his associates of consistently “undermining the party’s electoral success by collaborating with opposition forces.” He expressed dismay that despite George’s poor electoral record—failing to win his polling unit, ward, or produce a councillor—the national leadership continued to reward him and absolve him of wrongdoing.

Adewale further alleged that George had, in the past, encouraged members to defect to other parties like the Labour Party and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for selfish motives, sparking internal conflicts with loyal members who opposed this “anti-party stance.”

He lamented that these “unending internal power struggles” have severely damaged the PDP, transforming a once-dominant national party into a weakened entity at both the state and federal levels.

Concluding his letter, Adewale stated, “I’ll communicate next steps in my political journey to supporters soon. Currently, I’m focusing on business and family, having neglected over 15 years of political pursuit.”

However, a source privy to his plans immediately confirmed that the former PDP chieftain will not be exiting the political arena but will instead be taking his structure to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This move is expected to bolster the ADC’s presence and influence in Lagos State ahead of future elections.

This defection marks another chapter in the ongoing realignment within opposition politics in Nigeria and underscores the deepening fissures within the PDP’s ranks in its key former stronghold of Lagos.
