BREAKING: Godswill Obioma not killed by Gunmen, died in Abuja – Police

The Niger state police command has issued a statement on the death of NECO registrar, Prof. Godswill Obioma.

Early on Tuesday, the media was flooded with reports that Obioma was reportedly shot dead by assassins in Minna, Niger state. However, a statement from his son, Godswill Obioma II proved otherwise as he claimed that the deceased died of natural causes.

Confirming the incident, the Niger state police command in a statement made available to NEWSACROSS, signed by its PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, Obioma died at the national hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.

“The attention of Niger State Police Command has been drawn to a publication circulating in some section of social media and national dailies that NECO Registrar Prof. Godswill Obioma was murdered by unknown gunmen in Minna. This story is totally false, untrue and a pure piece of fake news.”

“It is important to state categorically that on 31st May, 2021 the family of the Registrar/CEO National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof Godswill Obioma formally announced that he passed to eternal glory after a brief illness at National Hospital Abuja.”

“Members of the public are hereby urged to disregard the fake news and news reporters are advised to always verify their report before publication to avoid creating unnecessary panic and fear in public domain.”, the statement read.
