Breaking: Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls Regain Freedom, Security Operation Successful

Kebbi State – The 24 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, have been successfully rescued, security sources confirmed on Tuesday.

The girls were freed following a coordinated security operation, though specific details of the rescue remain sketchy. An official statement from the authorities is expected later today.

The students were taken on November 17th after bandits attacked the school, killing one official and injuring a security guard. Initially, 25 students were kidnapped.

However, hope emerged shortly after the incident when a local official, Hussaini Aliyu, confirmed that two of the abducted girls had managed to escape from their captors as they were being led into the bushes, bringing the number of those still in captivity down to 23.

The abduction prompted an immediate and significant response from state and federal authorities. The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, had deployed additional police tactical units, working in concert with military personnel and local vigilante groups.

Furthermore, President Bola Tinubu directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State to oversee and monitor the security efforts aimed at securing the students’ release.

The Chief of Army Staff also directed troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to intensify the search-and-rescue operation.

The successful rescue brings a relieved end to the ordeal for the families of the students and the community of Maga.
