Abeokuta South LG Stops Helmet, Side Mirror, Others Fines, Terminates Contract of Necad Nerrow Management

Abeokuta – In a decisive move to protect commercial motorcyclists from alleged exploitation, the Abeokuta South Local Government Legislative Council has terminated its contract with Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited and suspended all fines related to helmet, side mirror and other violations.
The decision was reached on Tuesday after the company’s management failed to appear before the council to address the accusations, despite being summoned alongside major motorcycle unions in the local government.
The controversy began when the Legislative Council, on Monday, suspended the collection of fines related to helmets and side mirrors,Carrying more than one passenger, and summoned key stakeholders, including:
– The Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN)
– The Association of Motorcycle Owners and Riders of Nigeria (AMORAN)
– The Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO)
– Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited, the consultant handling Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the local government and
the Hausa community.
While representatives of the motorcycle unions honoured the invitation, the management of Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited, led by Mr. Nurudeen Olayinka Adenuga was absent without explanation.
In a statement signed by the Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Ogundairo Jamiu. and made available to journalists, the council announced:
1. Termination of Contract – The agreement between Abeokuta South LGA and Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited has been revoked with immediate effect.
2. Suspension of Fines Remains – The earlier suspension of penalties on helmets and side mirrors for commercial motorcyclists stays in force.
The council emphasised its commitment to protecting the welfare of residents, stating:

Reactions & Next Steps
Motorcycle unions present at the hearing welcomed the council’s decision, describing the alleged extortion as an undue burden on their members.
Efforts to reach Necad Nerrow Nigeria Limited for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
