Yayi Pledges New Market, Road Projects for Olomore Traders

ABEOKUTA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has pledged to construct a new ultra-modern market at Olomore, Abeokuta, following a request by traders under the United Traders Forum (UTF) of Ogun State.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, gave the directive for work to commence during an endorsement ceremony organised by the 24 trade unions under the UTF at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta.

The APC governorship candidate said construction workers would visit the site within the week to commence preliminary work on the proposed market.

He also promised to construct roads requested by some of the trade groups to improve accessibility and create a more conducive environment for businesses in the area.

The traders had earlier appealed to Adeola to provide them with a modern market similar to the one he facilitated at Panseke and other locations across Ogun State.

Among the trade groups that supported Adeola’s governorship ambition were the Plank Sellers Association of Ogun State, Olomore Ram/Pepper/Fish Sellers, Egba Ram and Goat Sellers, Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association, Kemta Indigenous Timber Contractors, and Nigeria Automobile & Technicians Association (NATA), among others.

Some of the groups contributed ₦1 million each in support of the APC candidate, while the Egba Ram and Goat Sellers additionally presented a ram to him.

Responding to the gesture, Adeola announced a ₦50,000 grant for 1,000 members of the United Traders Forum, amounting to ₦50 million, alongside another financial donation to the forum.

He said the gesture was his way of appreciating the traders for their support, endorsement and contributions, stressing that he would not take their confidence in him for granted.

Earlier, the President of the United Traders Forum, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi, said the 24 affiliated unions decided to support Adeola’s 2027 governorship bid because of what he described as his developmental achievements across Ogun State as a senator.

Ajadi said members of the forum were ready to mobilise support for Adeola ahead of the 2027 election, adding that members with Permanent Voter Cards would also encourage their family members to support the APC candidate.

He specifically highlighted the traders’ desire for a modern market at Olomore, noting that such a facility would improve trading activities and provide a better business environment for the community.

The endorsement ceremony was attended by the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu; former Speakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni Sodunke and Rt. Hon. Surajudeen Adekumbi; former PDP State Chairman, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele; former APC State Chairman, Hon. Derin Adebiyi; Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun; and Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Omoniyi Jagunmolu Akande, among other dignitaries.

The development further underscores the growing engagement between the APC governorship campaign and organised trade groups across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
