OGWAMA Begins Special Operation to Clear Waste Across Ogun State

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has commenced a “Special Operation” aimed at evacuating the backlog of waste accumulated across the state.

The newly appointed Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, disclosed that the exercise became necessary to rid the state of refuse that was not properly attended to prior to his assumption of office.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Akintunde explained that all machinery of the authority has been deployed to various parts of the state, with operations running simultaneously in major towns including Abeokuta, Sango-Ota, Ijebu-Ode, and Ifo, among others.
He also announced the immediate return of the “Night Operation,” which had been suspended several months ago.
“Following a fruitful meeting with the Executive and Members of the Ogun State Association of Waste Managers (AWAN), where some lingering issues hampering their operations in the past were resolved, members have also resumed immediately in their assigned coverage areas to contribute significantly to the proper evacuation of accumulated waste across the state,” Akintunde added.
The Managing Director urged residents to cooperate with waste managers assigned to their areas by containerising waste and placing them in front of their homes, rather than dumping indiscriminately on roadsides and medians.
He warned that anyone caught violating the directive would face prosecution.
