Ogun first lady, Mrs Abiodun pledges 35% affirmative action for women

The wife of the Ogun state governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has assured of the commitment of the present administration of fair representation of women in governance in Ogun state as a way of fulfilling the National Gender Policy of 35 percent Affirmative Action for Women in Public Governance.
Mrs. Abiodun gave this assurance while playing host to members of the Ogun state chapter of Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria during a courtesy visit in her office.
She noted that the role of women in the society can not be overemphasized and that women remained the rallying point in homes and the society at large stating that the empowerment of women would further promote core values in the society.

She further stated that the state would ensure that more women would be involved in process of governance in the state in order to give good complement to the roles of men in governance.
Earlier in her address, the state Amirah, Alhaja Rabiu Kudirat Yeni lauded the initiatives of Mrs. Abiodun at advancing the wellbeing of women and children as the political status of women was germane at realizing their full potentials.
In a related development, the wife of the Ogun state governor,
Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has advised women groups in the society to continue to give support to the widows and underprivileged children in the society.
Mrs. Abiodun gave the advice while receiving members of the Eminent Women in Ogun state on a courtesy visit to her office .
She appreciated the roles of the group at caring for the aged and the widows in the society noting that such roles should not be left for government alone.

Dr. Iyabode Okulaja highlighted the objectives of the group to include, professional and educational support for women and the girl child among others calling on government to assist the group in reaching out to women and the girl children.
