Mothers have been advised to ensure adequate nutrition for their children, particularly children under the age of five for healthy growth and development.
The wife of the Ogun state governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun gave this advice at the launch of a new brand of product, ‘Cerelac Junior’ for age three and above by the Agbara Factory of the Nestle Nigeria Plc at the factory hall.
Mrs. Abiodun noted that adequate nutrition was needed for children from six months when the nutrients in the breast milk would no longer adequately drive the growth of the children.
She emphasized the need to consider the cognitive ability of the children in their formative years by providing good nutrition for the children on a daily basis, adding that this would reduce the high rate of malnutrition and deaths in children.
Mrs. Abiodun commended Nestle Nigeria for promoting the nutritional needs of and reducing preventable deaths of newborn and children through it’s brand of products for children.
The Managing Director, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Mauricio Alarcon earlier in his welcome address said the new cereal was targeted at meeting the specific nutritional needs of children from the age of three and above.
He explained that 50% of death in children was as a result of malnutrition informing that ‘Cerelac Junior’ was a complete meal fortified with iron +(plus) for fast learning ability and good blood formation to combat anaemia in children.
Mr. Alarcon appreciated the collaborative efforts of governments and there agencies of health and commerce both at the state and the federal levels while promising high quality standard and continuous support for the health care of the people.
