Ogun Compensates Victims of Ita-Oshin Gas Tanker Explosion
Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Ogun State government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has provided financial assistance and relief materials to victims of the Ita-Oshin gas tanker explosion that occurred in April 2023.
At a ceremony held at the MKO Abiola Trade Fair Center in Laderin, Abeokuta, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Oluwafunmilayo Efuwape, presented cash awards to affected business owners. Efuwape, represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Lateef Benson, reiterated Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to supporting residents affected by the disaster.
The compensation follows an assessment of damages caused by the explosion. Efuwape urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously to revive their businesses.
NEMA’s South-West Zone Coordinator, Mr. Olanrewaju Kadiri, praised the government’s efforts, stating that the gesture demonstrates its concern for the welfare of citizens, particularly those affected by the explosion.
Ogun State Emergency Management Agency Director, Mr. Wale Shonde, expressed gratitude to NEMA for its support and emphasized the importance of safety consciousness among traders.
Beneficiaries, Mr. Isaac Fatade and Mrs. Muibat Odunjo, expressed their appreciation to both federal and state governments for the timely assistance, stating that the compensation would enable them to restart their businesses.
