Buhari confirms release of #Dapchi schoolgirls
The Presidency on Wednesday confirmed the release of students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State who were abducted by the Boko Haram sect on February 19.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed this in an interview with Punch.
Shehu promised to give further details on the development later.
“Yes, the girls are being transported to safety. We will give details later. We thank God,” the presidential spokesman said.
The schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, in Yobe State, have been returned to the town by Boko Haram insurgents, according to report.
A resident confirmed the development to our reporter.
According to the resident, the insurgents returned the girls in the early hours of Wednesday few minutes after soldiers were withdrawn from the town.
“We are happy. There is jubilation in Dapchi now as the girls are back,” the resident said.
