Abeokuta South LG Boss, Ayo Shomide supports Adire Producers, Adopts Kampala as Friday Attire

The chairman, transition committee of Abeokuta South Local government, yesterday, said that the local government would be adopting the popular local fabrics, Adire/Kampla as part of the Friday attire for management and staff of the local government.

Shomide stated this at the flag off of Small Scale Business Support and Off-Taker Maiden Programme at the local government secretariat, Ake, Abeokuta, where he supported beneficiaries with One Hundred and Twenty Thousand (N120,000) cash support each.

Presenting the cheque to the beneficiaries, the council chairman, Hon. Ayodeji Michael Shomide the gesture was to boost their production potentials and capacity.

Shomide who said his administration was committed to supporting women and youth to lift them out of abject poverty and unemployment bedevilling the country, noted that, his administration have arranged for off-takers who will the their products.

He said the present administration in Abeokuta South is positioned to promote smale scale businesses to boost economic development of the state, as well as to bring about wealth creation and financial emancipation to small business owners.

“The initiation of different kind of people oriented projects has been the centre piece of our agenda to building our future together.

“The present administration is committed to delivering projects and programmes that would impact positively on the lives and livelihood of our people.

“It is a well known fact that the production of Adire fabrics has provided gainful employment opportunities to numerous people and had open-up vast window of opportunities for several others to tap into its value chain.”

The council chairman therefore, appealed to well meaning individuals, corporate organizations, private schools to key into the lofty initiative of the present administration both at the State and Local Government levels to adopt the use of Adire textile as part of school uniform fabric, national event and official dressing.

One of beneficiaries, Mrs. Akinbola Maryam of Asero Kampala market expressed gratitude to the Council Chairman for the support, assuring to invest the cash support in her business.

Earlier, in her remarks, Rt Hon, Titi Oseni Gomez commended the local government chairman for adopting Adire/Kampala as the official outfit every Friday.

She said “The end result of all these is a wide range of employment generation, which will go a long way in boosting our efforts towards wealth creation and poverty alleviation in the state.

Other dignitaries at the event are Hon. Commissioner for industry, Trade and Investment who was represented by Director at the ministry, Mrs Yetunde Olatunbosun, Hon. Commissioner for culture and Promotion, who was also represented by Director at the ministry, Mrs Tokunbo Ronke Peters, Abeokuta South APC Chairman, Hon. Adetunji Henry Fagbenro, Prince Edun, Member, Housing corporation, other transition committee members, Alhaja Modinat Oyetola,, osin Iyaloja kenta adire market, and others.
