Odeda LG Boss, Adeyemo, Launches Digital Payment System to Boost Revenue, Curb Leakages

In a bold move to modernise revenue administration and enhance professionalism within the council, the Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Folasade Waliat Adeyemo PhD, has officially launched a comprehensive capacity-building training programme for the local government workforce. The initiative is designed to strengthen service delivery and promote a technology-driven approach to governance.

The training session, which brought together Directors, Heads of Departments, and staff from various units, focused on two critical areas: reinforcing work ethics and performance standards, and advancing the digitalisation of revenue collection through the deployment of Point of Sale (POS) machines.
The first lecture, titled “Work Ethics, Values, Attitudes and Performance in the Local Government Service,” was delivered by Mr Oyekan Johnson. He underscored the importance of discipline, punctuality, integrity, and transparency in building a credible public service. “The reputation of this Council is shaped by the conduct and professionalism of its staff,” Johnson stated, adding that true performance is measured by the quality of service delivered to the people, not merely by physical presence.
The highlight of the event was the second paper, presented by Mr Adelani Sunday, which focused on the “Digitalisation of Revenue Collection Through the Use of POS.” He explained that the transition from traditional cash-based systems to digital payments would significantly reduce revenue leakages and minimise the risks associated with cash handling. “Embracing technology is no longer optional but a necessary step toward administrative efficiency,” Adelani noted.
The new system is expected to enable real-time monitoring, ensure accurate transaction documentation, and strengthen public confidence in the council’s financial processes. Revenue officers in attendance also received practical guidance on the proper use and maintenance of the POS machines.
Hon. Adeyemo, who also serves as the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Ogun State, reiterated her commitment to building a disciplined, performance-driven workforce. By introducing digital revenue mechanisms and reinforcing core service values, the Odeda Local Government continues to position itself for improved operational efficiency and sustainable development.
