Senator Salisu Hails Osoba, Abiodun, Sanusi for Party Unity, Endorses Tinubu for 2027

…Says Ogun origin of 'Emilokan,' slang underscores state's strategic political role

ABEOKUTA— Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Dapo Abiodun, while crediting three leaders with ensuring cohesion within the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at the Expanded Stakeholders Strategic Meeting of the party held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Salisu specifically acknowledged former Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, Governor Abiodun, and State Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi for fostering unity.

“His leadership style is our unity,” Salisu said of Sanusi, who hails from Odeda Local Government. “Where our loyalty always stands. Where we don’t betray the system. These are the three people who make our party strong, reliable, and united.”

In a remark highlighting Ogun State’s outsized influence on national political discourse, the Senator noted that key slang deployed during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 campaign originated in the state.

“If you recall, most of the slang used by our President during the 2023 campaign was generated here in Ogun State, such as ‘Emilokan’ and ‘Won Gbepo pamo’,” he said.

Declaring the bloc’s support for the president, Salisu added: “On behalf of my colleagues, we endorsed our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the 2027 election.”

The endorsement capped a strategic meeting that saw Governor Abiodun mount a robust defence of the president’s economic reforms, describing the concurrent removal of fuel and forex subsidies as “the beginning of genuine reforms.”

Abiodun cited falling inflation, a stabilising naira, $45 billion in foreign reserves, and major infrastructure projects including the coastal and Sokoto-Badagry highways as early returns on Tinubu’s policy direction. He also announced that Ogun State would deliver a new APC secretariat within six months.

The governor, flanked by former governor Osoba, Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Ogun West), and Minister of State for Health Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, among others, described a united APC as “unbeatable.”

Describing the president’s support for Ogun as unwavering, Abiodun revealed federal backing for what will become the largest dairy and cattle ranch in Ipokia and Yewa South, insisting that extending Tinubu’s mandate through 2031 would consolidate ongoing recovery.

The meeting was attended by the National Working Committee member Hon. Tolu Bankole and ranking party stakeholders from the state’s three senatorial districts.
